Fraud Protection (any website)

Here at THE BATTERY CELL we too are sick and tired of Fraudulent activity, Fraudsters and Fraudulent Sites, how do you know what is Legitimate and what is not? Is this type of thing preventing you from purchasing here in NZ? This is affecting us the seller AND you the buyer. WHAT CAN YOU DO to protect yourself? WHAT should you do to make sure it's okay? Read on...

Okay, our first recommendation for the safest way to avoid website fraud =USE THE BANK DEPOSIT OPTION -We will cover this in more depth further down the recommendations

Check the NZ Companies Office to make sure the business is REGISTERED and CURRENT, at the very least check to see it is using the same or VERY similar name to the business title it is using on their website

Make sure the business sells in NZ and is dedicated to NZ, we cannot vouch for ANY overseas website. A quick way to check this is to look around a website (usually at the top) to see a Currency indicator, if it is there it will allow you to change the currency -we recommend not to use a site that has this ability, it's risk of fraud is greater

Check the feedback for the business, do a google search for ["website business name" reviews] Now, you'll have to be careful here, YES there is such a thing as fake reviews, companies can now BUY or create their own reviews. If they have reviews too good to be true and very little low rated reviews it is most likely fake or fraudulent, lets face it the phrase "You can't please all of the people all of the time" is an adage for a reason, look for a mix of reviews that look legitimate AND MOST IMPORTANTLY look for bad reviews that mention Fraud, fake site or being ripped off. Read the Good and the Bad comments/reviews -MOST legitmate businesses will have a mixture of them both -check it out with some of the more well known businesses, even they have a mixture of reviews. If website's feedback is immaculate how real is that?

Call the business, don't buy from them if they do not have a NZ Business phone number. PERSONAL Contact is important. Ask as many questions as you like to make you feel comfortable that they are legitimate. -Contact by Email only is another RED FLAG.

Check that the business has a STORE (not all online businesses that are legitimate have a store) this is one very safe way to check the business is REAL (we'd still recommend all the checks though)

BACK TO CHOOSING THE BANK PAYMENT, now that you're happy to the point of making a purchase online, we would recommend your first buy on a new website to be via the BANK PAYMENT option. (If a site does not have a bank payment option then perhaps look for a similar site selling what you need that does). We recommend this for the following reasons;

-You will make your payment Via your Bank website and not on the sellors website. As a result the website you're purchasing from will not have any payment details.

-Only you will see your details, passwords etc. (Just follow the advice for the references you need to place via the bank as supplied by the site.

-This will give you a recorded payment AND the Assurance of the Bank that you are protected all the-way. So if it does go awry you can go through the process of retreiving your money via the bank. (No need to have to change Credit/Debit card.

-Watch how the Sellor provides you with information and contact after you have completed the Bank payment, make sure their contact is swift and in-depth, such as updates and tracking information. Call them if you wish wish.

-Don't forget Bank Payments clear MUCH faster than you are used to (never be in a hurry to complete your first purchase on a new website)

Doing all of this and having the correct and legitimate outcome of receving what you ordered in a way that 'just seems right', can then ease your mind for future purchases, recommendations and even using your credit card for the next purchase. SO, DO MORE BANK PAYMENTS ONLINE TO AVOID CARD FRAUD

Our Website/Business Legitimacy

We are a Registered NZ business (Battery Cell Limited) trading as THE BATTERY CELL, you can view and check this via the NZ Companies office [HERE]

Our Contact details are [HERE]

Our Head Office + Store is [HERE]

This is our story [HERE]

We only sell to purchasers who have NZ Addresses and pay in NZ dollars.

We do NOT import products at all, we use NZ Import Companies for added protection, product quality, product warrantees and to support other NZ businesses, which also means some of the money we spend on products actually goes BACK into this great Country of ours.

Yes, we have a mixed bag of Reviews -we have been around since 2009, we accept the mix and will always have our side of things for the 'legitimate' low rated reviews (yes, some of these are not from buyers). Don't forget to view our 5-star reviews and don't forget "You can't please all of the people all of the time" But, WE TRY TO. How many reviews over how many years?
