Debunking Camera Battery Myths & Maximizing Longevity

While photography specialist outfits hold the magic keys to complex camera settings, the team at The Battery Cell knows exactly how to make your power cells last. Let’s debunk a few common camera battery myths:

  • The "Memory Effect" Myth: Modern Lithium-ion camera batteries do not suffer from "memory effect." You do not need to run them completely flat before recharging. In fact, shallow discharges and regular top-ups are much healthier for the chemistry.
  • The Cold Storage Trap: While keeping batteries cool slows down self-discharge, storing them in a damp fridge can introduce terminal-ruining condensation. Keep them in a cool, dry place instead.
  • Long-Term Storage Charge: If you are putting your camera body away for the off-season, don't store the battery totally empty or completely full. Storing Lithium cells at around 40% to 50% charge preserves their long-term health best.
